Brisbane Street Water Main Replacement

By October 18th, 2021Completed Projects
Location: Ipswich, QLD
Value: $2.9 million
Client: Queensland Urban Utilities
Duration: 14 months
Description: Shamrock Civil was engaged by Queensland Urban Utilities for the construction of a new 290m watermain along Brisbane Street in Ipswich CBD. Works were situated in a busy area, between the top of the Ipswich Mall and Wharf Street and close coordination was required by the project team.
The existing line had deteriorated over time, became very fragile and burst in a number of areas. Therefore, the upgrade was essential to ensure Ipswich maintained a reliable water supply.
The scope of works included:
  • Installation of 140m of 355mm fusion weld HDPE trunk watermain;
  • Micro-tunneling to install 100m of 610mm steel pipe encasing 355mm HDPE pipe; and
  • Installation of 50m of 300mm diameter DICL watermain.
Shamrock Civil implemented a traffic management plan to effectively coordinate the works at two major intersections and the pedestrian mall. Major works were carried out at night for the convenience of the Ipswich Mall and the local community.
