Shamrock Civil Engineering were engaged by Nillbumbik Shire Council to fulfil this 12 month project. The works included the construction of a landfill capping system, gas collection and relief system, stormwater management system, vegetation of the cap and associated works. The landfill capping system comprises a composite liner system on the crest of the landfill and a geosynthetic clay liner (GCL) capping system over the south east facing slope (southern batter).

Scope of Work

  • Preparation of the subgrade surface including cut to fill
  • Installation of leachate sump riser and gas collection system
  • Landfill capping
  • Moisture conditioning
  • Compacted clay liner
  • Installation of geo-synthetics
  • Clay plug and installation of sub-surface drainage system
  • Subsoil, topsoil and establishment of vegetation
  • Drainage including construction of stormwater drainage structures

Project Complications & Achievements

Utilising Shamrock’s significant landfill cell construction knowledge we completed this project ahead of schedule and within the set budget.
