CLIENT: Logan City Council
VALUE: $2.2 million
DURATION: September 2018 – April 2019

Overview

Logan City Council awarded Shamrock Civil Engineering the project to upgrade the intersection of Brigade Drive and River Hills Road to a signalised intersection. As this intersection is a high volume traffic area and in close proximity to the M1 motorway, this project was carried out in stages and substages which also involved night works.

Scope of works
  • Intersection earthworks – road passage was boxed out approximately 500mm and completed in stages to ensure intersection was trafficable
  • Build up pavement box using type 2.3, type 2.1, emulsion primer and 50mm DG 14
  • Construction of 361m of storm water drainage and 13 structures
  • Complex traffic management to complete works in stages as road closures were not permissible
  • Managing and co-ordinating local service authorities such as Telstra, Energex and Logan Water
  • Night works to mitigate risk during peak traffic and high risk construction work such as asphalting works and crossing works
  • Concrete works including kerb and channel, footpaths and traffic islands
  • Linemarking, coloured cycle lane treatments and signage
Achievements

Shamrock Civil were able to provide an alternative seal design, more suitable for this location, which allows better resistance to turning wheels at intersections. This was a complex project that required careful planning and constant communication with Logan City Council, service authorities and subcontractors. Shamrock Civil completed the works on-time, with zero lost time injuries and with no environmental breaches whilst maintaining a positive relationship with the local community.
