Shamrock Civil Engineering were awarded the civil works package for the LAND 121 stage 2A Weighbridge project by Lendlease. The overall project involved construction of a weighbridge facility inclusive of entry and exit roadways for the weighing of Defence vehicles that are exiting the RAAF Townsville Base to ensure legal compliance prior to travelling off site.

Scope of Work

  • Earthworks: Site strip, clear and grub 4,856m2; Final trim to bulk earthworks level of 4.856m2; Removal of topsoil 1,183m3; Cut to fill 801m3; Subgrade preparation of 1514m2; Final grading to subgrade surface 1,514m2
  • 55m Stormwater 300mm Dia, 4m depth; 50m of Stormwater 450mmDia, 3m depth; 1 Drainage Pit access chamber 1050mm Dia, 3m depth; 1Drainage Pit access chamber 1500mm Dia, 3m depth; 5 stormwater kerb inlets; 301m of subsoil drainage; and 2 only STC2 Humeceptors
  • Construction of 845m2 of Block Paving Pavement Type 1 using 80mm blockswith a cement stabilised subbase; 122m2 of flexible Type 1 Pavement;669m2 of 250mm rigid pavement complete with S81 mesh
  • Compliance to the ECC and CEMP which included 180m of erosion andsediment control fencing
  • Working beside live traffic road corridor, Detailed excavations near highvoltage and other services, Unidentified encounters with asbestos materials,Working within aircraft flight path and having to manage height restrictionson plant, equipment and materials, Working in close proximity to othersubcontractors on site

Project Complications & Achievements

SCE engaged indigenous employees from their joint venture partner WSU Civil to perform works on this project. We also engaged indigenous employees from the Indigenous owned Western Labour Hire group. Combined with SCE’s own Indigenous employees this maintained approximately 60% indigenous labour on this project.
