The primary scope of work for the Cultana Training Area Roadworks project was the construction of a 11.5km road and drainage/culvert construction to ensure a fit for purpose structure. The site is situated in the Australian Army Cultana Training Area adjacent to Lincoln Highway and Port Bonython Road, Whyalla SA. Shamrock Civil aimed to deliver this project achieving ‘Zero Harm’ in all aspects of delivery and particularly relating to health, safety and environment. Delivery of the project to meet or exceed Contract schedule requirements in a timely manner without negatively impacting on the operation of the Defence facilities or neighboring properties or affecting Defence capabilities.

Scope of Work

  • UXO and cultural heritage clearing
  • Clearing and grubbing, stripping of seedbank (top 30mm) and stripping of topsoil
  • Surface preparation for acceptance of general fill
  • Quarrying general fill on-site and placing to design subgrade levels asper contract specification under level 1 supervision
  • Import & place pavement materials 150mm sub base & 150mm wearing course as per contract specifications
  • Construct 20 RCBC culvert crossings with custom headwalls, apron slabsand rock protection
  • Construct swale drain parallel to new road approx. 1.65km with rockprotection at outlets
  • Street furniture, fencing etc

Project Complications & Achievements

The project was completed on time and on budget. Shamrock engaged local contractors and resources from the Eyre Peninsula and hit our target for local participation and resources. We also held a zero LTI record on this site.
