Shamrock Civil Engineering were engaged by QGC Pty Ltd (QGC) to undertake the Kenya large pond upstream embankment remediation project and upgrade of the Jen 2/Janda pond, Kenya East pond and the Ruby Jo pond, in Chinchilla, QLD.

Scope of Work

  • Supply and application of fertiliser, organic matter, grass seeding and placement of Vetiver grass
  • Construction of earth bunds and grade channels to fall to outlets
  • Topsoil treatment including gypsum treatment, fertiliser, pre-watering and hydro-mulching to external embankments
  • Remediation of erosion and reinstatement of riprap protection including supply and placement of 300mm thick riprap and cushion geo-textile at outlets and rock chutes
  • Remediation of erosion pond down stream embankments and diversion drains
  • Subgrade surface preparation for Coletanche Liner at Kenya Large Pond
  • Excavation of anchor trench along crest, installation of Coletanche liner,backfill and compact
  • Supply and installation of Elcorock bags filled with non-dispersive soil
  • Reinstatement of capping material including supply and installation of200mm thick on the crest of the embankment
  • Site reinstatement and revegetation of areas disturbed

Project Complications & Achievements

The project team worked proactively with the client to identify and resolve numerous site issues, that had the potential to cause project overruns in both cost and time. The design and construction was on time and within budget. The project had an outstanding safety record, with zero LTI’s recorded.
