The project consisted of remediation and improvement works to 26kms of unsealed pavement within the Murray Bridge Training Area which enabled the speed limit to be increased around the base. 4.5kms of the road required 10,000m3 of bulk earthworks and new pavements constructed.

Scope of Work

  • Construct approx. 4.5kms of new unsealed pavement
  • Tyne existing pavement and incorporate 50mm additional gravel, re-compact and grade 22kms of unsealed pavement
  • Road widening at identified intersections and realignment of some bends in the road
  • Install signage to 26kms of road and at intersections
  • Construction of 6 stormwater crossings under road and cleanout of existing stormwater crossings
  • Installation of 2 no. new sentry boxes
  • Adjustments to fencing and gates as required

Project Complications & Achievements

Sourced a ‘modified’ PM3/20QG material with a higher than normal P.I. to provide greater longevity to the pavement.- Worked closely with broad spectrum and Defence operations to minimize disruptions to all Defence scheduled activities during the course of the contract works.-We initiated the roll out of an indigenous training initiative where we assisted local indigenous members of our workforce to gain machine tickets while working on the project. Shamrock maintained an indigenous participation rate of greater than 23% for the duration of the project.
