Shamrock Civil Engineering was awarded the contract to complete the construction of a purpose built waste transfer station at the Townsville Field Training Area (TFTA) field control facility.

Scope of Work

  • Defence required a new fenced hard stand to be built for rubbish storage on the training grounds to keep wild animals out. A road had to be built into the area, cleared and imported fill was placed and compacted to develop access and hardstand areas. A concrete slab was built for the storage of the skip bins and tie down bolts installed for restraint in high winds
  • Existing levels had to be increased to allow adequate drainage access the site. There was approximately 800T of select fill material imported. Minor detailed digging was required around the perimeter of the job for a concrete footing below the fence to stop any wild life borrowing under
  • Concrete V drains were installed for drainage purposes
  • Approximately 580T of a special blend wearing course with a high claycontent was placed for the top layer of the pavement

Project Complications & Achievements

Shamrock Civil Engineering proposed different ideas for V drains which were positively accepted by the client resulting in a better product and value for money.
