Piping Solutions awarded Shamrock Civil the hydrant refueling work package for the Growler Airborne Electronic Attack Capability Facilities Project – Phase 2 at RAAF Base Amberley.

Scope of works
  • Backfill of stainless steel fuel lines, encased with concrete and backfilled with in-situ material
  • Pavement reinstatement of road crossings and carparks with respective surfacing works
  • Design and construction of 3 x waterproofed reinforced concrete valve pits
  • Backfill of fuel line trenches and backfill around valve pits
  • Pavement construction for road crossings (Fuel line reinstatement works)
Achievements

Due to poor ground conditions on RAAF Amberley, Shamrock Civil minimised the amount of time spent in trenches by using pumps or excavators to pour concrete.
Sections of dry lean mix (stab sand) was placed every 20 metres to anchor the pipes in place prior to pouring wet mix. Thereafter a rapid fill (flowable lean mix) was utilised to fill the trench. The concrete encasement specification stated lean mix concrete. Shamrock Civil innovated two mixes of the lean mix complying with SPEC (One wet mix and one dry mix).
